Equipment and Format FAQ

Target Locations
-Targets will not be difficult to locate; This is not a hunting event.
-You will be given clear descriptions and directions to range the targets and develop your shooting solution.

Rifles
-6mm to 30 caliber are all good choices with the 338 Lapua being the max caliber.
-3200 max speed.
-6mm and 6.5 calibers perform very well at the competition.

Rifle optics and mounts
-Most 6mm and 6.5 calibers on a 20 MOA base will get you near 1600 yards without holdover.
**Example: 6.5/47 with a PM2 will get to 2000 with 8 mil +- of hold over. So for 4-6 targets you would be holding beyond scope travel limits. That means nearly all of the match targets are within dial up capability of a similar setup.

-No special ELR setup needed.

Range finders
-Your team will need a unit capable of 1000 yards. Beyond that distance we will provide true line of site distance and angle. (you can compute the angle into your solution)

-We will also have distances on hand for all targets if weather becomes an issue.

-Even though ranging targets is a basic skill set for a long range rifleman, we do not want a lack of an ELR rangefinder to deter a shooter from attending.

Handguns
***NO Magnums***

-Any pistol or revolver of typical self defense calibers. 22, 32, 38 ,9mm, 45, etc.
-Any hip holster that will retain the handgun.
-No chest rigs, shoulder or cross draw setups!
-You will not be drawing a hot handgun.
-Typical stage would draw, rack and engage.
-Revolver shooters will need to use some type of speed loader.
-When targets are cleared, you will clear the handgun and holster.

Pistol Targets
The introduction of pistols or revolvers into the match is another basic skill that is lacking in many of today’s matches. It’s a basic skill set that all marksmen should possess.

-Our targets are generous and range from 15-30 yards.

-These are comfortable for even the novice hand gunner and meant to add some fun as well as stress to the rifle stages.

-A stock out of the box Glock shooting hardball ammo is more than adequate for the match. Any standard pistol caliber is acceptable, however Magnums calibers are not permitted.

Any optics are permitted.

Tripods

-Tripods are another item that have become standard equipment for riflemen.
-Although not a necessity It would be advantageous to have a tripod setup. A tripod with either a clamp mount for the rifle or a Game Changer on top of it will work. There will be positions that a tripod may be advantageous but not necessary.
A pack or even shooting sticks would work as a speed expedient setup.

Shooting Bags

-A Game Changer or similar shooting bag, and a rear bag should carry the day but if you have additional support bags they are welcome.
-Some of the steep down angle may require additional rear bag height to achieve stability.
-You will have an opportunity to experiment on train-up day.

Packs

-Any pack capable of organizing your equipment is acceptable.

Additional Gear

-We have no restrictions on gear other than you must carry what you use.
-The sharing of equipment is acceptable, with the exception of firearms (rifles & pistols).

Sniper Craft
The focus of the Major Land Sniper’s Cup is on marksmanship and displaying your mastery of shooting fundamentals. There is no tradecraft involved in this match! The focus is on shooting.

Physical Requirements

-This is not a physically demanding event. The focus is on shooting, not P.T. You’re not required to run, ruck, or trudge.
-The age of our past competitors has ranged from mid-teens to mid-seventies, so you needn’t worry if you’re not in prime physical shape.
-It’s a short walk around the range road from stage to stage and minimal movement when shooting. It is very easy to navigate.
-Additionally, our partners from Can-Am will be providing free shuttles around the property for any who desire it.
